MHA Culinary Council to Promote Shipboard Crew Talent

MHA Culinary Council to Promote Shipboard Crew Talent

The Marine Hotel Association’s (MHA) new Culinary Advisory Council will be awarding scholarships to the emerging culinary talent on cruise ships sailing globally in a first-of-its-kind initiative.

The not-for-profit MHA is looking ahead to its annual Conference and Trade Show, taking place in Naples, Florida, April 2-4.

The event brings together food and beverage and hotel vendors along with key decision-makers from cruise lines, and the new Culinary Advisory Council features chefs from a number of cruise brands that will be heavily involved in the Florida event.

The Council will be nominating and recommending chefs working onboard cruise ships for the MHA culinary scholarship.

“This allows us the opportunity to highlight our extraordinary talents onboard and feature their commitment to delivering an ever-evolving world-class experience,” said Eric Barale, Vice President of Culinary for the Apollo Group and MaĆ®tre Cuisinier de France. “I am truly excited to be able to support and recommend our chefs at sea for the MHA scholarships that focus on the culinary education, development, advocacy and career navigation of our talent.

“The MHA conference and Trade Show will also provide a unique one-on-one networking opportunity for our vendors and teams to address, encourage and visualize the future of trade on the high seas,” he added.

Olsen is also said to be looking for a buyer for the vessel, which has a capacity for 977 guests in double occupancy.

Fort Lauderdale: LGBTQIA+ Cruises Deliver Key Economic Impact

Fort Lauderdale: LGBTQIA+ Cruises Deliver Key Economic Impact

Greater Fort Lauderdale is preparing to set a new record in February 2023 with four sold-out LGBTQIA+ cruises bringing in more than $8 million in economic impact, according to Visit Lauderdale, the destination marketing organization.

“With demand for travel to LGBTQIA+ friendly destinations at an all-time high, our reputation for welcoming  ‘everyone under the sun’ has delivered a record-breaking booking of four consecutive LGBT+ cruises of this magnitude,” said Richard Gray, Visit Lauderdale’s senior vice president of inclusion and accessibility.

The four sold-out cruises will bring in a total of 11,500 visitors to Fort Lauderdale, according to a statement.

In October 2022, Visit Lauderdale launched its new brand campaign titled “Everyone Under the Sun,” aimed at emphasizing Greater Fort Lauderdale’s welcoming atmosphere and its inclusive community. The ads feature locals of all ethnicities and disabilities and members of the area’s LGBTQIA+ community.

Gray worked with LGBTAIA+ cruise operators including Atlantis, VACAYA and Olivia for the past year promoting four sailings on Visit Lauderdale’s website.

The sold-out LGBTQIA+ cruises include:

  • Atlantis’ voyage on Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas (February 4-12, 2023);
  • VACAYA’s cruise package on Celebrity Reflections (February 12-19, 2023)
  • Holland America’s Nieuw Amsterdam two cruises (February 19-26, 2023 and February 23-March 5, 2023)

“Beyond our appreciation for the major economic boost to our economy, we want LGBT+ travellers to know they are truly welcome in our community,” concluded Gray.

Fourth quarter Occupancy was approximately 87 per cent, with the gap versus 2019 levels continuing to narrow sequentially.

‘We are also experiencing strong and broad-based onboard revenue generation even as occupancy increases,” the company said, noting it expects to report a net loss for the quarter and full year ended December 31, 2022, and the first quarter of 2023.

Damen: Growing Cruise Ship Drydocks Scheduled to 2030

Damen: Growing Cruise Ship Drydocks Scheduled to 2030

Damen is seeing growing project scopes and has ships scheduled up to 2030 according to the 2023 Drydock and Refurbishment Report by Cruise Industry News.

“We have exact dates up to 2030 already,” said Rogier van der Laan, global product manager of cruise maintenance and upgrade services at Damen.

“We are seeing bookings far out. There are three back-to-back ships scheduled in 2025, and one is an especially huge conversion,” van der Laan added.

Damen completed multiple projects in 2022 as well. Among 2022 highlights were the Emerald Princess drydocking in Rotterdam, the Seabourn Odyssey in Curacao as well as the Celebrity Xpedition, and the winter conversion of the Maasdam into the Renaissance for French start-up CFC.

The former Maasdam arrived at Damen’s Brest, France, facility in October, entered drydock in November and is scheduled to start sailing in the spring.

The yard will handle steelwork, maintenance and more, and help interior contractors with logistics, container shipments and more.

“With the supply chain problems, logistics can be a challenge. For the yard, it’s not a problem, but getting supplies from the manufacturers can be a big issue and the price is going up everywhere,” he said.

Overall, van der Laan said the outlook was “very good” for the company’s yards, with its European facilities looking after ships of any size and its Curacao drydock perfectly suited for smaller ships and expedition ships moving between the polar regions.

Across the industry, van der Laan said that Tier III updates for ships would be a trend in coming years, allowing them to sail in sensitive areas.

Planning has tightened up with changing budgets and project scopes from cruise customers, meaning five to six months out instead of a year for a project plan.

“But we are flexible. It’s always changing,” van der Laan said. “There can be change orders or unforeseen steelwork, and we can do that.”

Carnival Corporation 2023 Preview

Carnival Corporation 2023 Preview

Carnival Corporation is set for an eventful year in 2023 with a new product and new builds entering service.

Cruise Industry News looks into the most anticipated events taking place across the company’s nine brands over the next 12 months.

Carnival Fun Italian Style
Carnival Fun Italian Style is debuting in 2023, with the introduction of the Carnival Venezia in May.

Originally built for Costa Cruises, the vessel is set to offer a unique product, combining Carnival’s experience with special touches from the European country.

Following the Venezia, which will sail year-round from New York, the Carnival Firenze is also set to join the concept in 2024 and launch service from California.

Two Newbuilds
Two new builds are entering service for core Carnival Corporation brands in 2023.

Originally ordered for AIDA Cruises, the new Carnival Jubilee is currently being built in Germany by the Meyer Werft shipyard. Joining the Mardi Gras and the Carnival Celebration, the XL-Class ship will debut during the fourth quarter, offering Western Caribbean cruises out of Galveston.

A sister to the Seabourn Venture, the Seabourn Pursuit is set to become Carnival Corp’s second expedition ship. Under construction in Italy, the vessel is scheduled to enter service in October, ahead of a winter season in Antarctica.

In addition is a yet-to-be-named new build for Adora Cruises, Carnival’s joint venture in China.

More Efficient Fleet
While new ships enter service, Carnival continues to withdraw smaller and less efficient ships from its fleet.

In 2023, at least three vessels are set to be retired by the brands, including the AIDAaura, which will bid farewell to AIDA Cruises in September.

Two more ships from Costa Cruises are also expected to be withdrawn. The exits are part of an effort to right-size the brand in light of the continued closure of cruise operations in China – where Costa had significant capacity before the pandemic.

More Passengers Onboard
Carnival Corporation is expecting more passengers onboard its ships in 2023, with an aimed average occupancy rate of 90 per cent across its nine cruise brands in the first quarter.

The number is up from 54 per cent occupancy in the first quarter of 2022 when cruise operations were still being restarted across the globe.

Return to Asia and World Cruises
Following a three-year gap, several Carnival brands are returning to Asia in early 2023.

While Seabourn is set to offer a series of Southeast Asia itineraries during the entire winter season, Princess and Holland America are returning to Japan in the spring.

Several brands – including P&O, Cunard, CostaPrincess and Holland America – also resumed their world cruise itineraries in January, offering long global voyages that visit several international destinations and countries.

China Joint-Venture Debut
After years in the making, Carnival’s joint venture with CSSC is set to launch service in China in 2023.

Named Adora Cruises, the new brand will serve the local market, offering itineraries from several Chinese homeports.

In addition to two ships acquired from Costa, the joint venture is set to operate a pair of new builds, which are currently being constructed at a shipyard in Shanghai and are scheduled for 2023 and 2025 deliveries.

Carnival’s AIDA Brand Reports Record Bookings

Carnival’s AIDA Brand Reports Record Bookings

AIDA Cruises has joined P&O Cruises UK as two Carnival Corporation brands reporting record cruise bookings to start 2023.

Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises, said: “We are seeing very strong interest for AIDA cruises across all channels. The record level of bookings covers the entire cruise program for 2023 and beyond. We are delighted that the AIDA fleet is on top of so many people’s minds when planning their vacations and that – whether for the first time or for a repeat – they are embracing our multi-faceted travel offering to the world’s most beautiful destinations.”

For long-haul destinations, AIDA said it is providing additional flight options for sun-hungry guests.

Helping the bookings has been AIDA’s sales push, with children up to 15 years old travelling free in the same cabin as their parents, for cruises booked for the summer 2023 season by the end of January.

Itineraries that have performed well, according to the company, are seven-day voyages from/to Kiel with the AIDAnova to Norway and Denmark or the one-week  “Mediterranean Treasures from Mallorca” with AIDAcosma.

Resorts World Cruises to Restart Cruises in Hong Kong with Former Explorer Dream

Resorts World Cruises to Restart Cruises in Hong Kong with Former Explorer Dream

Resorts World Cruises announced it will restart cruises from Hong Kong with the Resorts World One from March 10 2023, offering two and three-night high-seas cruises, departing every Friday, Sunday and Wednesday of the week.

The Resorts World One was formerly the Explorer Dream, a 75,338 gross ton 13-storey high cruise ship that features 928 rooms, which can accommodate over 1,856 guests with world-class cruise facilities.

“We are pleased that Resorts World Cruises will have the first cruise ship to homeport in Hong Kong after the resumption of normal travel with the Mainland and overseas. We hope to support the growth of Hong Kong tourism as we had done for both Singapore and Malaysia,” said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman of Resorts World Cruises.

Resorts World One is chartered by Resorts World Cruises and she will replace Genting Dream’s regular two- and three-night itineraries from February 17 until March 1 2023, as the Genting Dream goes into drydock for regular maintenance. Departing on March 3, Resorts World One will offer a special five-night repositioning cruise from Singapore, calling at Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, prior to arriving in Hong Kong on March 8.

Passengers can also embark from Kuala Lumpur (via Port Klang) for this re-positioning cruise on March 2, making it a six-night cruise calling at Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang before arriving in Hong Kong on March 8.

“It’s been an exciting journey so far and we are looking forward to starting our next chapter in 2023 with the introduction of the Resorts World One cruise ship. The ship will increase tourist arrivals and generate economic benefits to the hotels, transport, suppliers and other service sectors in Hong Kong. Resorts World One will berth at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, contributing revenue to the government-owned facility,” said Michael Goh, President of Resorts World Cruises.

SURIA FM Becomes First Malaysian Radio Station to Broadcast Onboard

SURIA FM Becomes First Malaysian Radio Station to Broadcast Onboard

Malaysia’s Suria FM made history by becoming the first radio station in the country to broadcast live from a cruise ship.

The milestone was achieved during a three-night round-trip cruise on the Genting Dream, operated by Resorts World Cruises, which set sail from Port Klang, Malaysia on January 9, 2023.

The partnership between Suria FM and Resorts World Cruises began in mid-November 2022, to celebrate the station’s 15th anniversary.

Michael Goh, president of Resorts World Cruises, said: “Our collaboration is timely as our ship continues to homeport in Port Klang until early 2024 to offer a series of cruises to Penang, Singapore and Phuket with certified Halal food and beverage offerings, enabling us to further grow and promote cruise vacations as an option among Malaysians, especially for the Malay market segment.”

To mark the occasion, the Malaysia Book of Records presented certificates to Suria FM and Resorts World Cruises during a ceremony held on the ship.

For the Malaysia Book of Records attempt, Resorts World Cruises hosted 71 guests on the Genting Dream including SURIA FM’s local DJs, lucky radio contest winners, crew and technical sound engineering, as well as Malaysian celebrities, influencers, media and also the Malaysia Book of Records official representatives.

Two Cruise Ships Plug Into San Diego’s Shore Power

Two Cruise Ships Plug Into San Diego’s Shore Power

The Port of San Diego announced that on Friday, for the first time, two cruise ships can now simultaneously use shore power in San Diego rather than running their diesel engines while at berth.

Previously, only one cruise vessel could plug in. On Friday, the Disney Wonder and the Insignia from Oceania Cruises were the first two cruise vessels to use shore power at the same time in San Diego.

The port said in a statement that it is committed to being a good neighbour. Having two shore power outlets at the cruise ship terminals will result in at least a 90 per cent overall reduction of harmful pollutants (while the ships are docked) such as Nitrous Oxides (NOx) and Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM) as well as a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The Port is also meeting California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations that require essentially all cruise ships calling on California ports to use shore power beginning January 1, 2023.

Doubling shore power at the cruise terminals is among many electrification efforts underway in support of the Port’s Maritime Clean Air Strategy (MCAS), the most ambitious clean air strategy of its kind in the state, and likely in the entire country, the port said.

The MCAS and its “Health Equity for All” vision represents the Port’s commitment to environmental justice, specifically cleaner air for everyone who lives, works, and plays on and around San Diego Bay.

How Arvia is the ‘latest evolution’ for P&O Cruises

How Arvia is the ‘latest evolution’ for P&O Cruises

LNG-fuelled Arvia has been handed over by shipyard Meyer Werft to the UK’s P&O Cruises.

P&O Cruises president, Paul Ludlow, explains the sister ship of Iona, built in 2020, has taken the latter vessel’s general arrangement but has additional features.

He says, “Arvia is the latest evolution in the P&O Cruises experience, embodying the newest trends in travel, dining and entertainment, and is the epitome of a sunshine resort sailing year-round to the warmest climates. It takes its sister ship Iona’s design aesthetic and general arrangement but provides new and exciting outside and inside spaces which make the most of Arvia’s deployment to the Caribbean.”

Explaining the energy-efficient features, he points out Arvia is P&O Cruises’ second ship to be powered by LNG. Mr Ludlow adds, “As an Excel-class ship, Arvia has an optimised hull design to minimise drag and is installed with the latest energy-efficient technology on board.”

LNG tanks in the bowels of the ship.

The ship concept is based on the platform Meyer Werft has created for several brands of Carnival Corp. “Technically, the ship has been designed with tailor-made, optimised hydrodynamics and is equipped with the latest technology to minimise energy consumption while offering spacious public areas and cabins for passengers,” explains Meyer Werft communications manager Florian Feimann.

He points out that when the shipyard designed the class, there were no regulations by IMO or classifications for LNG use on passenger vessels. “Next to the development of the LNG propulsion system, the clarification and development of regulations were the major milestones. Meyer Werft was also involved in designing the regulations.”

Commenting on the use of LNG, Mr Feimann says, “In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter can be almost completely eliminated, and sulphur oxides completely avoided. All cruise ships in Meyer Werft’s current orderbook feature this low-emissions propulsion system.

According to SOLAS and SRtP regulations, there are two separate engine rooms with two engines each. These engines power generators, which power the electric engines in the Azipods.

While the technical aspects of Arvia are almost the same as Iona, there have been updates and changes carried out to the interiors of the ships.

The design features and venues were developed to create a ship that makes the “destination and sea the star”.

“The clear direction was to design and create spaces and ‘wow’ moments that celebrate the sea and bring the outside in, for example, SkyDome with its retractable roof and the Grand Atrium with widescreen ocean views which will be the focus of entertainment for the ship,” Mr Ludlow says, adding the interior also had to feature cues inspired by P&O Cruises’ “rich and proud nautical heritage”.

There is a broader choice of cuisine with new restaurants created exclusively for ArviaGreen & Co featuring Mizuhana offers guests, fish and plant-based dishes. Guests will be able to dine at the sushi bar and watch expert chefs at work or be seated at tables to enjoy the views out to sea.

6th Street Diner is an all-American diner serving breakfast, brunch, dinner and sweet treats, accompanied by great music and ice-cold cocktails.

Mr Ludlow says there are more experiential retail areas on board including an area showcasing the latest in tech at sea, a ‘design your own’ fine jewellery bar; and the first-at-sea Swarovski ‘Wonder Lab’ concept store featuring the latest crystal collections from Swarovski’s new creative director, Giovanna Engelbert.

New entertainment options include Altitude, Arvia’s outdoor adventure zone which features Altitude Skywalk, P&O Cruises’ first-ever high-rope experience, Altitude Minigolf and the new aqua zone at Splash Valley.

“Mission Control is also exclusive to Arvia and is a uniquely immersive experience combining an escape game with multimedia simulation and a live-action story to create a thrilling underwater challenge,” says Mr Ludlow.

Guests on Arvia will be able to watch the stage musical, Greatest Days - The Official Take That Musical which is an adaptation of the West End musical The Band, which features the songs of Take That and is by Olivier Award-winning writer Tim Firth. Arvia will also feature WaveLength, a new interactive gameshow, virtually starring presenter and game show host Ben Shephard.

And Infinity, P&O Cruises’ first swim-up bar, will give guests the opportunity to enjoy their favourite drinks.

Enter SkyDome

He explains there are more inside and outside spaces to enjoy, for example, the SkyDome will feature a retractable glass roof, creating a relaxed poolside environment with dining and drinking options for guests. “In the evening, the space will seamlessly transition into an entertainment venue, showcasing superb production shows, live music, guest act tributes and aerialist performances. Guests will also be able to enjoy blockbuster movies under the stars on the huge SeaScreen,” Mr Ludlow says.

Marine glazing specialist Brombach + Gess developed and delivered the retractable glass roof which consists of two sliding elements and a fore and an aft non-movable part. With an overall length of 43 m, a width of 34 m and a height above the baseline of 62 m, the roof adorning Arvia is an impressive highlight.

The roof structure is a grid construction with arches from starboard to portside and longitudinal beams made of welded rectangular hollow profiles. The roof structure is made of steel and weighs about 156 tonnes.

To keep the temperatures under the roof at a moderate level, the roof is equipped with durable solar control laminated safety glass. The glasses are glued on the steel structure, with sealing between the glass panes leaving the surface of the roof flat with no upstands that could accumulate residue, making it easy to clean the roof.

The roof is opened and closed using motorised worm gears and chains with a running speed of 1 m/min, allowing the roof to be converted within 10 minutes.

Brombach + Gess says, “Sliding roofs are a great solution to use on areas on a ship efficiently at any time – sudden changes in weather will not be a problem and the endless view is a great experience.”

Iona and Arvia: design differences

London and Prague-based international architecture and interior design practice Jestico + Whiles scooped interior designer contracts for P&O Cruises’ Iona and Arvia.

Jestico + Whiles associate director Jennifer de Vere-Hopkins tells PST’s sister publication Passenger Ship Interior & Refurbishment Review, “We were recommended to P&O Cruises, and they came to us because we are outsiders [to the cruise industry]. They wanted to work with a hospitality designer that could give fresh ideas and a new perspective.”

Within the hospitality sector, the firm’s designs range from the interiors of large hotels to one-off restaurants and bars. Projects include the Mandarin Oriental Palace, Lucerne and W Hotel Edinburgh.

Jestico + Whiles was one of three firms employed to design the interiors of the two ships. The company designed the Grand Atrium and many of the food and beverage areas.

Jestico + Whiles was tasked with making areas in Arvia look different to the first ship. Explaining one of the main differences, Ms de Vere-Hopkins says, “P&O Cruise’s brief was to accommodate the pop-up entertainment right in the centre of the atrium, rather than starboard like Iona. The lighting and sound are focused on the centre space with the redesigned staircase as a backdrop and a chandelier above.

“We want people to dance in the centre and we had an interesting design driver as you can’t dance on stone [which is in the Iona’s Grand Atrium]. We also set out to bring in a more natural feel to Arvia with wood, which is a perfect surface for dancing and one of the new design features is a ripple of wood across the floor.”

Silversea Reveals Public Areas on Silver Nova

Silversea Reveals Public Areas on Silver Nova

Silversea Cruises has revealed full details on the public venues aboard its new ship Silver Nova, including what it said was the most extensive array of bars, lounges, and restaurants of any ultra-luxury cruise ship.

The 728-guest Silver Nova will host 10 bars and lounges, eight distinct restaurants, and an array of additional public venues when she launches in August 2023.

Silversea will enhance the Silver Nova with a new design approach in a first for the leading ultra-luxury cruise line: guests will benefit from an asymmetrical design, as well as a horizontal layout, which will heighten the ship’s sense of spaciousness and provide a natural flow between venues on entire decks, the company said.

“In addition to her pioneering sustainability credentials, Silver Nova will unlock a new luxury experience for our guests, offering an industry-leading variety of bars, lounges, and restaurants with an entirely new design approach for Silversea,” said Barbara Muckermann, President and CEO, Silversea Cruises. “Silver Nova represents a milestone in our strategy to build the perfect ship for every itinerary, with her array of venues enhancing the guest experience to a new level. She will push boundaries in ultra-luxury travel and enrich the social aspect of cruising to unprecedented levels, fostering the strong sense of community that is core to life on board each Silversea ship. Her openness to the destinations she visits will offer guests a new way of connecting with the world.”

The company said the ship’s horizontal layout allows for a stronger connection between settings, with an enhanced guest experience that flows throughout the ship and evolves with each venue according to the time of day. Silver Nova’s public spaces include:

The Dolce Vita Lounge

Silversea’s signature pre-and post-dinner drinks venue, the Dolce Vita (pictured above) lounge will represent the heart of Silver Nova—located on deck five with a capacity for up to 120 guests. Open from early in the morning until late in the evening, Dolce Vita will provide an elegant setting throughout the day, welcoming guests for leisurely drinks and enrichment activities, before transforming into a sophisticated piano bar by night. A feature bar will sit centrally within the 370.5m2 (3,988ft2) space, complemented by a performance area, and ample seating.

The Venetian Lounge

Silver Nova’s two-storied Venetian Lounge will have a capacity for 370 guests on decks four and five, with a 550m2 (5,920ft2) lower level and an upper tier of 190m2 (2,045ft2). The home of Silver Nova’s enrichment and entertainment offering, the Venetian Lounge will host live theatrical and musical performances, film screenings, and events of an evening, as well as informative lectures and seminars during the daytime. The venue will incorporate state-of-the-art audiovisual technology, including a large HD screen; cabaret-style seating with small tables; and balconies for an intimate viewing experience.

The Shelter

A brand new venue for Silversea, the Shelter will be a sophisticated evening-only bar, accommodating just 32 guests in a chic setting of 131m2 (1,410ft2). Set adjacent to Atlantide and S.A.L.T.® Kitchen on deck three, the Shelter will welcome guests for pre-dinner aperitifs and post-dinner cocktails. The venue’s elegant interiors will employ a neutral colour palette, illuminated by tasteful lighting. The Shelter’s striking bar will include a wrap-around bottle display with integrated strips of lighting for a modern aesthetic. Forming a harmonious connection with Silver Nova’s other nightlife venues, the Shelter will entertain guests with an open feel.

The Connoisseur’s Corner

Offering guests a selection of premium cigars and liquors on deck five, Silver Nova’s 61.5m2 (662ft2) Connoisseur’s Corner will benefit from a new layout with a capacity of 35, featuring a larger, modern interior space with floor-to-ceiling windows and a spacious outdoor area. With comfortable Chesterfield armchairs, the Connoisseur’s Corner will have the exclusive look and feel of a private member’s club.

The Observation Lounge

Offering guests panoramic, 270-degree views over the destination from deck 10, the Observation Lounge will provide a vantage point from the top of Silver Nova, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a soothing colour palette that is inspired by the sea. Enlarged to 256.5m2 (2,761ft2), the venue will accommodate up to 115 guests from early in the morning until late at night. The lounge will house Silver Nova’s library, offering travellers an intimate space in which to relax with a book.

The Panorama Lounge

A peaceful lounge by day and a lively bar by night, Silver Nova’s Panorama Lounge will accommodate up to 190 guests, sprawling over 547m(5,888ft2) on deck five. Large windows that surround the space’s interiors give way to 221m(2,379ft2) of outdoor space, from which guests will enjoy 270-degree views over the destination from the ship’s aft. Aboard Silver Nova, the Panorama Lounge will feature a new layout when compared to Silversea’s Muse-class ships, as well as a new design and colour palette.

S.A.L.T. Bar

The S.A.L.T. Bar will enjoy a premium position aboard Silver Nova when compared to Silversea’s previous class of ships, relocated to deck 10. More spacious than ever, with a capacity for 42 guests and an area of 170.8m2 (1,838.5ft2), the evening venue will be enriched with a larger bar area, as well as far-reaching views through floor-to-ceiling windows and a new outdoor area. The S.A.L.T. Bar will serve regionally inspired drinks in warm, elegant interiors, with a dark colour palette and comfortable armchairs for an intimate atmosphere.

S.A.L.T. Lab

Also relocated to deck 10 for a prime view of the destination and with a new outdoor area, the S.A.L.T. Lab will be greatly enhanced aboard Silver Nova with a fresh layout—enlarged to approximately 112.4m2 (1,209.9ft2) and accommodating 28 guests. The test kitchen will enable guests to travel deeper into each sailed region through the lens of food and drink, providing the opportunity to get hands-on with regional ingredients under the guidance of local food experts and Silver Nova’s S.A.L.T. Host. Enjoying the same bright, elegant interior design as on previous ships, the S.A.L.T. Lab will comprise cooking stations and a larger, redesigned central workstation aboard Silver Nova—at which participating guests will be able to sit to view demonstrations.

Otium Spa

The Otium Spa will be relocated when compared to Silver Dawn℠, positioned towards Silver Nova’s bow on deck five with a more spacious interior. Open throughout the day as the home of Silversea’s Roman-inspired Otium wellness program, the 338m2 (3,638.2ft2) space will incorporate an indoor swimming pool; spa, with eight treatment rooms and a tranquil relaxation area; fitness centre; and beauty salon. Inspired by the design of Ancient Roman baths, the Otium Spa will have an open, welcoming feel, in which guests’ wellness journeys will flow seamlessly between interconnecting areas. The thermal area will be larger than ever, with a steam room; sauna; and pool, complete with a travertine water fountain and floor-to-ceiling windows. Soft lighting and natural stones, including hints of red marble, will create an elegant, relaxing setting.
