Norwegian Escape Sets Sail for Europe Ahead of Drydock

The Norwegian Escape paused its regular operations in North America in late September to embark on a repositioning voyage to Europe.

Scheduled to undergo a routine drydock in mid-October, the Norwegian Cruise Line ship is currently offering a 16-night trans-Atlantic crossing.

Sailing from New York City, the original cruise itinerary included visits to nine destinations across Canada, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Spain.

A planned visit to Sydney, however, had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions in North America.

As a result, the Norwegian Escape visited Halifax before heading to the Azores, a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic.

The vessel is scheduled to visit Ponta Delgada in early October before continuing to Gibraltar, Melilla, Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca.

The trans-Atlantic crossing will conclude in Barcelona, from where the 2015-built ship is expected to sail to a European shipyard with no guests onboard.

Before embarking on a repositioning voyage back to North America, the Escape will spend 16 days out of service undergoing maintenance and updates.

The vessel is then scheduled to offer a new trans-Atlantic crossing in late October, sailing from Barcelona to Port Canaveral.

The 16-night cruise will visit destinations in Spain, France, and Morocco, including Marseille, Palma de Mallorca, Cartagena, Motril, Cádiz, Tangier, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

In mid-November, the Norwegian Escape arrives in Port Canaveral to kick off a winter season of Caribbean sailings from Central Florida.

The deployment features a series of seven-night cruises to the Eastern Caribbean, visiting St. Thomas, the Dominican Republic, the British Virgin Islands and the Bahamas.

In addition to Puerto Plata, Tortola and Charlotte Amalie, the weeklong cruises sail to Norwegian’s private island destination of Great Stirrup Cay.

Scheduled to reposition to Galveston in 2027-28, the vessel will continue to sail from Port Canaveral through November 2027.

NCL opens second ship berth at Great Stirrup Cay

NCL opens second ship berth at Great Stirrup Cay

For the first time last weekend, the pier at Norwegian Cruise Line's private island, Great Stirrup Cay, accommodated two ships simultaneously, NCL said on its Facebook account.

Like other features at Great Stirrup Cay (the Great Tides Waterpark, Great Life Lagoon resort pool and Vibe Shore Club), the pier is new. The pier temporarily opened in late 2025 with the capability of accommodating one ship, then closed April 1 to complete construction.

Before the pier opened, ships calling at Great Stirrup Cay tendered passengers ashore, making a day at the private island weather-dependent. If the sea was choppy, tender boats couldn't be used.

Also, NCL is able to further monetise the waterpark with two ships calling at the same time. The waterpark opened on Sept. 4.

Norwegian, Carnival Stocks Sink to 52-Week Lows

Norwegian, Carnival Stocks Sink to 52-Week Lows

Norwegian Bliss

Two major cruise operators saw their stocks hit 52-week lows on Thursday, as Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings dipped as low as $14.48 and Carnival Corporation sank to $22.28.

Other cruise stocks were also down on Thursday, including Royal Caribbean, Lindblad and Viking, although those three were off their year-long lows.

Driving the dips were said to be concerns over fuel prices due to the ongoing Middle East situation, and a potential capacity and pricing situation in the Caribbean in the first quarter.

U.S. crude oil had topped $100 a barrel on Wednesday as strikes continue in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, multiple Wall Street analysts have pointed to the cruise industry’s 2027 first quarter Caribbean capacity and ticket pricing as a potential concern.

One note sent to investors this week had called out Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings specifically as a contributor to pricing pressure.

The company’s decision to adjust its pricing model and offer the best prices well in advance of a sailing date has been said to have an effect on pricing across the marketplace.

NCL reveals spa and dining offerings on newest ship

NCL reveals spa and dining offerings on newest ship

Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed details of the dining and spa facilities on its latest ship Norwegian Aura, which launches next May.

The Prima Plus Class vessel is the line’s largest ship and will be able to host 3,880 passengers in 1,970 cabins.

It boasts the industry’s “most expansive” thermal suite, featuring 15 wellness experiences, and NCL’s first specialty restaurant dedicated to Indian cuisine, called Tamara.

The Panorama Room on deck six features LED displays, synchronised lighting and visuals that evolve throughout the day and evening, “transporting guests through ever-changing landscapes, artwork and scenic environments as they dine”.

Other restaurants, bars and lounges have been redesigned and repositioned to create more space.

Gary Anslow, vice-president for the UK, Ireland, Middle East and Africa, said: “Norwegian Aura is all about giving guests more of what they love, with spaces and experiences that make vacations feel even easier.

“From Tamara, our new Indian specialty restaurant, which expands the already guest-favourite eatery in Indulge to an elevated culinary offering; to The Panorama Room’s immersive dining experience and our most expansive Thermal Suite to date, every addition has been purposefully designed to give guests more freedom, choice and opportunities to relax, recharge and enjoy their vacation their way, without compromise.”

The Mandara Spa, which includes the thermal suite, also offers a sensory rain pool, said to be the first of its kind at sea.

The 360-degree experience transforms from calm waters to a tropical rainfall and eventually a dramatic thunderstorm, with simulated lightning effects and the sounds of rolling thunder.

The culinary programme includes 22 food and beverage options spanning more than 10 distinct cuisines.

Norwegian Aura will also feature Ocean Heights, an activity zone for parents and kids.

It will offer six slides, the 82-foot Aura Ropes Course, a multi-level obstacle course, Moon Climber, and Aura Midway featuring carnival-style games and a nine-hole mini golf course.

The ship will first set sail in Europe with a seven-day Mediterranean voyage from Trieste to Barcelona on May 21, 2027, followed by a 13-day transatlantic voyage to Miami.

In the summer of 2027 as well as the summer of 2028, Norwegian Aura will sail seven-day Eastern Caribbean voyages. During winter 2027-28, Norwegian Aura will offer week-long Western Caribbean voyages.

Norwegian’s Pride of America Delays Return to Honolulu Due to Hurricane

Norwegian’s Pride of America Delays Return to Honolulu Due to Hurricane

The Pride of America had to delay its return to Honolulu due to Hurricane Lala, which impacted Hawaii over the weekend.

With the port closed due to adverse weather, the Norwegian Cruise Line ship was only able to dock one day later than planned on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

According to a text message sent to boarding guests, check-in at Honolulu Harbor was then open until 9:00 PM local time.

Initially set to depart from its homeport on August 15, 2026, the Pride of America was scheduled to offer a seven-night interisland cruise in Hawaii.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this weekend’s weather-related delays,” Norwegian stated.

“We are pleased to share that we have received the all-clear to begin embarkation and check-in,” the company continued.

“We are currently finalizing itinerary details and will communicate as soon as it becomes available,” Norwegian added.

The ship’s original itinerary included visits to Hilo and Kailua Kona, as well as overnight calls to Kahului and Nawiliwili.

In addition to the Pride of America, the Norwegian Spirit was also impacted by Hurricane Lala and had to delay a planned arrival to Honolulu.

Offering a series of cruises that connect the South Pacific and Hawaii to Alaska, the 1999-built vessel was scheduled to arrive at the port on August 16, 2026.

The adverse weather in the region forced Norwegian Cruise Line to move the planned call to August 17, 2026.

As a result, passengers who were set to board the ship’s upcoming cruise were asked to arrive at the Honolulu port one day later.

The Norwegian Spirit is scheduled to offer a 16-night cruise that will sail to destinations in Hawaii and Alaska before ending in Vancouver, Canada.

The itinerary originally included visits to Kailua Kona, Nawiliwili, Kahului, Icy Strait Point, Skagway, Sitka and Ketchikan.

Norwegian Sky Farewell Cruise Cancelled

Norwegian Sky Farewell Cruise Cancelled

Norwegian Cruise Line cancelled the farewell cruise of the Norwegian Sky, which was scheduled to depart from Greece on September 9, 2026.

According to a statement sent to booked guests, the decision is related to security concerns in the Middle East region.

The 19-night voyage was scheduled to transit the Suez Canal and the Red Sea before arriving in Muscat, Oman.

“After careful review, and with the safety and security of our guests and crew as our guiding priority, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this sailing,” the company added.

“Given the ongoing uncertainty in the region, we no longer have the level of confidence needed to deliver the experience you expect and deserve.”

Norwegian stated that the decision to cancel the cruise, though difficult, was guided by the safety and well-being of its guests and crew.

After departing from the port of Piraeus in Athens, the Norwegian Sky was scheduled to sail to Greece, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia before arriving in Oman.

The itinerary included visits to Rhodes, Alexandria, Port Sokhna, Safaga, Sharm El Sheikh, Jeddah and Aqaba, as well as transits of the Suez Canal and the Red Sea.

Acquired by Cordelia Cruises in 2025, the Norwegian Sky is scheduled to be delivered to the India-based cruise line this October.

“We know this is not the news anyone was hoping to receive. Throughout this process, many of you have shown remarkable patience, flexibility, and understanding, and we are truly sorry that this voyage can no longer move forward as planned,” Norwegian added.

The company said that guests will receive a full monetary refund of the cruise fare paid to the original form of payment used at the time of booking.

Norwegian will also offer passengers a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) valued at 50 percent of the current voyage fare, which will be added to a 15 percent FCC issued earlier due to itinerary changes.

The company said that the new credit may be used toward any published Norwegian Cruise Line sailing through December 31, 2027.

Guests who purchased airfare through the company will have flights automatically cancelled and refunded.

For passengers with independent travel arrangements, Norwegian is offering up to $300 per person to cover airline change or cancellation fees that are not reimbursed by either the airlines or travel insurance providers.

Norwegian had already adjusted the itinerary of the cruise in July, cancelling visits to destinations in the Arabian Gulf.

Initially scheduled to end in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the cruise was also cut short from its original 21-night length.

NCL Offers First Look at Great Tides Waterpark Ahead of Opening

Norwegian Cruise Line revealed the first images of the Great Tides Waterpark on its private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay, ahead of the official grand opening on Sept. 4, 2026.

“With just one month until the grand opening of Great Tides Waterpark, we’re excited to give guests a first look at what will become one of the Caribbean’s most dynamic destination experiences that can only be enjoyed when sailing with us,” said Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line.

“From adrenaline-pumping attractions and family-friendly activities to unique dining experiences and places to relax, Great Tides Waterpark will showcase the innovative design, scale and adventure that await guests visiting the island. Together with our ongoing enhancements across Great Stirrup Cay, we’re creating even more ways for guests to enjoy their day in paradise without compromise. This beautiful island offers something for kids and adults alike, whether they’re a thrill seeker, in search of relaxation, or simply want a little bit of both.”

The Great Tides Waterpark will feature 19 waterslides including industry-first cliff jumps and The Great Slide in Cliffside Cove, as well as other attractions such as Splash Cay for kids and the Wandering River, a dynamic river with an immersive tunnel.

Complementing these enhancements, the island’s brand-new two-berth pier is officially open.

Beyond the adventures, Great Tides Waterpark will serve slow-smoked barbecue dishes at Low Tide Smoke, cold-water seafood at Catch of the Cay, handcrafted desserts at Tidal Treats, and more.

Drinks will be served at Grotto Bar, located at Cliffside Cove or the Floataway Bar located in the heart of The Wandering River.

Adult-only spaces, such as the Vibe Shore Club, will feature premium loungers and private bar.

Jefferies Cuts Norwegian Price Target

Jefferies Cuts Norwegian Price Target

Jefferies cut its price target on Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings to $17 from $18 following the company’s second quarter results.

Analyst David Katz reiterated a Hold rating, with the shares near $21 implying roughly 19% downside to his new target.

Katz described Norwegian’s new revenue management strategy as “a LT (long term) positive but a ST (short term) headwind,” with second half 2026 and 2027 yields likely under pressure before improving in 2028.

He detailed the company’s shift to a base-loading strategy, lowering early-curve pricing to build occupancy and drive stronger close-in pricing over time, alongside heavier marketing and top-of-funnel demand generation.

BNP Paribas’ Xian Siew said that the yield reset was driven largely by occupancy, which the company now expects at about 102.3%, roughly 300 basis points lower than before, partly offset by stronger per diems.

That mix, Siew said, reflected management preferring to have some empty berths rather than promote even further.”

Siew, who characterized the risk/reward as wide and balanced, noted that many bulls had already written off 2026 and shifted their focus to 2027.

The elections are expected to reduce the diluted weighted-average shares outstanding in full year 2026 by 4 million shares, relative to guidance previously issued on May 4, 2026.

“Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings delivered a solid second quarter with profitability ahead of guidance. At the same time, we continued to advance our strategic priorities to strengthen the business for the long term,” said John W. Chidsey, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.

“We are executing with urgency on our priorities including sharpening our brand positioning and marketing execution, strengthening our revenue management and pricing capabilities, driving meaningful cost efficiencies, including an additional $100 million of savings, and ensuring we have the right team in place to rebuild commercial momentum over time. While we are confident in the strength of our brands and the long-term benefits of the actions underway, we are still in the early stages of our turnaround. Our leadership team is united and focused on delivering sustainable growth and long-term value creation.”

Second Quarter 2026 Highlights

  • Generated total revenue of $2.6 billion, a 4.9% increase compared to the second quarter of 2025, driven by increased Capacity Days. GAAP net income was $223 million compared to $30 million in the prior year, with EPS of $0.48.
  • Gross margin per Capacity Day decreased 11.6% versus 2025 on an as reported basis and decreased 12.3% on a Constant Currency basis. Net Yield decreased approximately 2.1% on an as reported basis and 2.6% on a Constant Currency basis, better than guidance of a decline of 3.6%.
  • Gross Cruise Costs per Capacity Day were approximately $304, compared to $306 in the prior year. Adjusted Net Cruise Cost excluding Fuel per Capacity Day was approximately $164 on an as reported basis and $163 on a Constant Currency basis. Compared to 2025, this metric was essentially flat on an as reported basis and decreased 0.5% on a Constant Currency basis, 150 basis points better than guidance.
  • Adjusted EBITDA declined 4.1% to $666 million, compared to $694 million in 2025, above guidance of $632 million. Adjusted EPS decreased 6.6% to $0.48, above guidance of $0.38.

2026 Full Year Outlook

The Company said it continues to execute on the cost front, identifying $100 million of annualized savings, in addition to the $125 million of annualized savings announced last quarter. The Company has also taken actions to strengthen its execution, including the addition of key leadership within marketing, revenue management and other key areas at Norwegian Cruise Line. The benefits of these changes are expected to be realized over time and will have a limited impact on 2026 financial results as the Company navigates through its execution challenges, which are impacting its demand generation and revenue outlook. As a result, the Company is updating its full year 2026 guidance. A summary of the updated full year guidance is provided below:

  • 2026 full year Net Yield on a Constant Currency basis is expected to be down approximately 5% versus 2025.
  • 2026 Adjusted Net Cruise Cost excluding Fuel per Capacity Day is expected to be down approximately 0.25% on a Constant Currency basis versus 2025, reflecting better-than-previously-guided performance driven by ongoing savings.
  • 2026 full year Adjusted EBITDA is expected to be approximately $2.5 billion.
  • Adjusted Operational EBITDA Margin for the full year 2026 is expected to be 33.2%.
  • Full year Adjusted Net Income is expected to be approximately $700 million. Adjusted EPS is expected to be approximately $1.50.

Q3 2026 Outlook

  • Q3 2026 Net Yield on a Constant Currency basis is expected to decline 8.9% versus 2025.
  • Q3 2026 Adjusted Net Cruise Cost excluding Fuel per Capacity Day is expected to decline 0.9% on a Constant Currency basis versus 2025.
  • Q3 2026 Adjusted EBITDA is expected to be $874 million and Adjusted Operational EBITDA Margin for the quarter is expected to be 41.2%.

Booking Environment Update

The Company remains below its optimal booked position for the next 12 months, as it continues to experience pressure from softer demand at its Norwegian Cruise Line brand related to Company-specific execution challenges, as well as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. As we look ahead, the full amenities at the Company’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay, will be open to the public beginning September 4, including the pier and the new Great Tides Waterpark, the Great Life Lagoon, and the nearby Splash Harbor, which we expect will improve demand to Caribbean itineraries over time.

Liquidity and Financial Position

The Company is committed to optimizing its balance sheet and reducing Net Leverage. As of June 30, 2026, the Company had total debt of $15.0 billion and Net Debt of $14.8 billion. Net Leverage ended the quarter at 5.3x.

As of June 30, 2026, liquidity was $1.5 billion, including approximately $218 million of cash and cash equivalents and $1.3 billion of availability under our Revolving Loan Facility.

“While the demand environment remains pressured at our Norwegian Cruise Line brand, we continue to execute on disciplined cost and sourcing initiatives, and have identified an additional $100 million of expected annualized run-rate savings primarily related to technology vendors,” said Mark A. Kempa, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. “We remain disciplined in managing our cost structure and over the past three years we have identified over $500 million in savings. These actions will help support future margin expansion and strengthen our financial flexibility as we continue to position the Company for long-term profitable growth.”

Outlook and Guidance

In addition to announcing the results for the second quarter of 2026, the Company also provided guidance for the third quarter and full year 2026, along with accompanying sensitivities, subject to changes in the broad macroeconomic environment. The Company does not provide certain estimated future results on a GAAP basis because the Company is unable to predict, with reasonable certainty, the future movement of foreign exchange rates or the future impact of certain gains and charges. These items are uncertain and will depend on several factors, including industry conditions, and could be material to the Company’s results computed in accordance with GAAP. The Company has not provided reconciliations between the Company’s 2026 guidance and the most directly comparable GAAP measures because it would be too difficult to prepare a reliable U.S. GAAP quantitative reconciliation without unreasonable effort.

Norwegian Shifts Viva to PortMiami, Cancels Puerto Rico Season

Norwegian Shifts Viva to PortMiami, Cancels Puerto Rico Season

Norwegian Cruise Line will redeploy the Norwegian Viva to PortMiami for the 2027-28 winter season, cancelling the Prima-class ship’s previously planned Southern Caribbean cruises from Puerto Rico.

In a notice sent to guests, Norwegian advised that all itineraries the Norwegian Viva was set to operate from San Juan between late 2027 and early 2028 have been cancelled. The 2023-built vessel will instead offer getaway cruises to the Bahamas, joining the remainder of the company’s PortMiami-based fleet.

“We are committed to providing exceptional vacation experiences, both aboard our ships and by taking our guests to some of the most coveted destinations in the world,” Norwegian stated.

“Although we try to maintain original itineraries as much as possible, modifications are occasionally made to optimize voyages due to changes in port availability,” the company continued.

Guests affected by the cancellation will receive a full refund within 30 business days, in addition to a ten percent Future Cruise Credit (FCC). Norwegian said the FCC is being offered as a token of appreciation for guests’ patience and can be used for sailings departing through 2027.

For those wishing to explore other options from San Juan, the company said it will offer similar alternatives onboard the Norwegian Prima, which will continue to operate round-trip itineraries through the Southern Caribbean.

“These itineraries include many of the same highly requested destinations, as well as the same convenient and accessible departure point you originally chose,” Norwegian said.

The company also noted that the Prima and the Viva are sister ships and offer the “same high-quality amenities and experiences.”

From PortMiami, the Norwegian Viva will sail getaway cruises to Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas, which is currently undergoing a major enhancement project that includes the construction of a ship pier.

“At NCL’s premier destination, our guests will get to enjoy ‘The Great Life’ in a completely new way,” the company explained.

“These recent improvements include the Great Life Lagoon, a large pool area with two aquatic bars, as well as the Vibe Shore Club, an adults-only area,” Norwegian stated.

The company also highlighted its new Great Tides waterpark, which is scheduled to open on the private island this September. Norwegian said the attraction will feature 19 water slides, in addition to a dynamic river, water features and more.

“Everything was designed to make your shore stay just as memorable as your experience onboard,” the company added.

The Norwegian Viva had originally been scheduled to sail from San Juan every Sunday between November and April, joining the Norwegian Prima for seven-night cruises to destinations such as Aruba and Curaçao.

In addition to the Norwegian Viva, the Norwegian Aura, the Norwegian Luna, the Norwegian Jewel, the Norwegian Gem and the Norwegian Joy are scheduled to sail from PortMiami in 2027-28.

As the newest and largest ships in Norwegian’s fleet, the Aura and the Luna will offer weeklong voyages to the Western and Eastern Caribbean. The Jewel and the Gem will operate a series of theme charter cruises, in addition to longer ten- and 11-night itineraries to the Southern Caribbean and Central America.

Completing the company’s lineup in South Florida, the Joy will offer three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas.

Norwegian Targets Marketing Overhaul with New Leadership, Leaner Spend

Norwegian Targets Marketing Overhaul with New Leadership, Leaner Spend

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is moving to rebuild its marketing function at the Norwegian Cruise Line brand, bringing in new leadership and cutting overall spending, said Chairperson and CEO John Chidsey.

Speaking on the company’s first quarter 2026 earnings call, Chidsey acknowledged that marketing underperformance has been a significant part of the brand’s occupancy shortfall, and that correcting course will require both new personnel and a more disciplined approach to how dollars are allocated.

“We are looking to bring in new leadership in marketing at NCL and better align that function with revenue management, deployment, and sales,” Chidsey said. “This work is critical and will strengthen the business over time, but it may result in some near-term variability in top-line performance as we work through these initiatives.”

NCLH recently completed a search for a new chief people officer, and Chidsey said the company is continuing to build out its revenue management team, noting that new hires across both functions have not yet fully gelled, contributing to the wide guidance range the company issued for the full year.

On the spending side, NCLH expects to reduce marketing outlays as part of a broader spending cutback.

Chidsey said the company had lost its way on marketing efficiency, saying that spend had grown disproportionate to results over the past several years.

“Our spend increased dramatically, and we’re not nearly as efficient as our competitors,” Chidsey said.

CFO Mark Kempa offered a stark data point on the inefficiency, noting that NCLH had been spending approximately twice as much per berth as competitors.

“It’s about putting the dollars to work in the right places versus volume,” Kempa said.
