Celebrity Eclipse Repositions to the Mediterranean for the Fall Season

The Celebrity Eclipse arrived in Barcelona earlier this month to kick off its fall season in the Mediterranean.

The ship was one of Celebrity Cruises’ vessels in the region for the summer, having spent the past few months offering itineraries in Northern Europe.

In late August, the Solstice-class vessel embarked on a repositioning voyage that sailed from the Netherlands to Spain.

The 12-night cruise departed from Amsterdam and included visits to destinations in France, Spain and Portugal before arriving in Barcelona.

Highlights of the itinerary included visits to Le Havre, Lisbon and Palma de Mallorca, as well as a transit of the Strait of Gibraltar.

The Celebrity Eclipse is now scheduled to offer ten- to 11-night cruises that sail to destinations in both the Western and the Eastern Mediterranean.

In addition to Barcelona, the itineraries depart from ports in Italy and Greece, including Ravenna and Piraeus.

Sailing to the Adriatic and the Aegean, the cruises are highlighted by visits to the Greek Islands, Croatia, Turkey and Italy.

Among the destinations set to be visited are Dubrovnik, Mykonos, Kusadasi, Rhodes, Santorini, Split, Naples and La Spezia.

The season runs through early November, when the Eclipse is scheduled to embark on a repositioning voyage to Florida.

Sailing from the Port of Barcelona, the 2,850-passenger ship offers a trans-Atlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale.

The 14-night cruise will feature stops in destinations in Spain, the United Kingdom and Bermuda, such as Málaga, Gibraltar and King’s Wharf.

The vessel is then scheduled to offer cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas from Port Everglades before returning to Northern Europe in May 2027.

In related news, the Celebrity Eclipse underwent a refurbishment project during a drydock in early 2025.

As Cruise Industry News reported at the time, the 2010-built ship introduced an enhanced suite enclave following the refit, as well as a slight increase in its guest capacity.

The Celebrity Solstice recently kicked off a spring season in the Pacific after undergoing a major upgrade project at a shipyard in Singapore.

As part of a $250-million refit program that will see other Solstice-class vessels being modernized, the 2008-built ship welcomed guests back on March 2, 2026.

Sailing from Singapore Marina Bay Cruise Center, the vessel offered a 12-night cruise that ended in Hong Kong earlier this month.

The Celebrity Solstice is now set to offer additional itineraries in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific before repositioning to Alaska for a summer season.

The schedule includes a 14-night cruise to Australia that sails between Singapore and Sydney, featuring visits to Bali, Darwin, Port Douglas, Yorkeys Knob and Airlie Beach.

In early April, the Solstice is also set to offer a 16-night itinerary to the South Pacific that is highlighted by destinations in Fiji.

Sailing between Sydney and Honolulu, the cruise features visits to Lifou, Lautoka, Apia, Pago Pago and Suva.

The 122,000-ton vessel is then set to arrive in Alaska in early May for a series of seven-night cruises departing from Vancouver.

The itineraries include visits to Ketchikan, Skagway, Juneau and Icy Strait Point, in addition to scenic cruising at Hubbard Glacier and the Tracy Arm Fjord.

In October, the ship returns to Hawaii before kicking off a winter season in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

During its 45-day drydock, the Celebrity Solstice saw the debut of new dining venues, as well as updated public areas and staterooms.

The vessel’s capacity was also significantly increased with the addition of 54 extra cabins to areas across six decks.

Among the new features introduced onboard is Trattoria Rossa, a new Italian-inspired specialty restaurant that replaced Qsine at Silk Harvest.

The Celebrity Solstice also saw the addition of the Sunset Park, a new outdoor venue that will offer lawn games and open-air concerts.

Celebrity Cruises has introduced what it calls the world's first permanent World Class Bar. According to the cruise line, the bar space onboard Celebrity Eclipse provides "interactive and luxurious" drinks experiences created by world class-certified mixologists.

Celebrity said it is renowned for its highly skilled and engaging bartenders, and partnering with a premium drinks company provides the cruise lines' mixologists with exclusive menus that feature cutting-edge cocktails, promising to deliver the ultimate high-end drinks experience for vacationers. The World Class Bar debuted on the Celebrity Eclipse and will soon be followed by bars onboard Celebrity's four remaining Solstice Class ships.

"Our award-winning culinary program gives guests the opportunity to indulge in new tastes and experiences during their vacation, and the World Class Bar will do this by offering the very best of mixology, custom-created craft cocktails and expert bartenders," said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises. Celebrity depicts new Suite Class restaurant

Celebrity Cruises released renderings of what Luminae, its new restaurant exclusive to Suite Class guests, will look like when it debuts in April.

There are separate versions for Solstice-class and Millennium-class ships, Celebrity said.

Items on the Luminae menu will only be featured once during a two-week cruise, Celebrity said. A menu example is  caviar and creme fraiche, black truffle risotto with fricassee of wild mushrooms and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and a cote de boeuf with roasted root vegetables and bearnaise sauce.

Menus will feature locally sourced and seasonal ingredients inspired by the destinations where Celebrity sails, according to the cruise line.

There will be more than 400 selections on the wine list, Celebrity said.

Celebrity Cruises Project EDGE elusive like Carnival Vista

If you wanted any more proof that the cruise industry is doing very well, then we are sure the news before the weekend that Celebrity Cruises had two new ships would be it. Other cruise lines also have new ships on order, such as Carnival with Vista, although that is still very much elusive, such as the details Celebrity shared.

Project EDGE, as this program is called are two ships that will hold 2,900 passengers each and they will come in at 117,000 tons and so will have a large ship feel inside, while being much smaller on the outside.

They will sit between Solstice and Millennium-class vessels, so will give them the ability to go smaller ports than Solstice-class ships can manage, which will then help expand Celebrity’s ports of call.

Celebrity Cruises has not shared any more details with us about these new ships, although we can tell you the first will debut in 2018, and the second in 2020. However, we do hope the cruise line will be more forthcoming than Carnival are with its Vista ship, as that is still rather elusive.

Celebrity Century to leave fleet in 2015

Celebrity Cruises said its oldest ship, the 1,814-passenger Celebrity Century, will leave the fleet in April 2015.

The exit of Century, built in 1995, would leave Celebrity with five Solstice-class and four Millennium-class ships, along with its 98-passenger Xpedition ship. It has no new ships on order.

Celebrity has not said what it plans to do with Celebrity Century, although a page on the CDF Croisieres de France website last year said it would be the new operator of Century. Like Celebrity Cruises, CDF is owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

A special 14-night president's cruise in Asia has been scheduled in March 2015 to commemorate Century’s time with Celebrity.
